Hi there and thank you so much for checking in!
In this status report we will recap the last weeks changes, give some information on what we are working on and what we have on our list next.
Information: When talking about WN, we are talking about weeknumbers. You can find the current weeknumber here: https://weeknumber.com/.
The documentation, as announced in the last status report, is now available: https://docs.abinteractive.net
We are happy to hear your feedback! If you have anything to say or want to let us know of something regarding the documentation, please mail us at email@example.com.
The improvements announced with the last status report have been implemented and are available. We are satisfied with the improvements regarding speed and reliability and have further changes and optimizations planned, further information below.
What´s currently being worked on for the hub?
We are currently working on creating further privacy options and implementing 2 factor authentication.
What´s next for the hub?
The community hub will be moved to infrastructure 2.0 later this month to save on costs and to make us able to shut down the old infrastructure as soon as possible. We expect a short downtime of 2-3 hours once we migrate, and will announce the migration once done.
Hub Roadmap feature
Many users have asked us about the roadmap on the community hub.
This roadmap was created way back in the closed alpha stage of the game and is not properly maintained at the moment.
Because of this, we have decided to shut it down with the migration to infrastructure 2.0 - a replacement is coming.
We will be using a solution that allows us better integration into our workflow - which will also be of benefit for all of you as it means faster progress.
Details will be given in the corresponding release announcement.
Content Creation Kit
Most changes on the backend, announced with the last status report, are done and ready for testing. We will do some further changes and optimizations in the upcoming days, and expect to have it out to testers in the next days. Shortly after confirming the functionality of the new upload network, we will release it to the public.
We assume that the testing will not bring any bigger issues to the table, but we will not give any ETA for now.
Once the testing is fully complete, we will hand out CCK 3.0 to the public.
Did you know that CCK 3.0 is already translated into multiple languages, still being expanded?
As we have to add new translated lines to those, we rely on the community to help with translations once we push those out.
You can view the translation files here: https://github.com/NicoKuroKusagi/localization-abi-chilloutvr-cck (feel free to contribute!)
To make you able to test the latest features of CCK 3.0 before its official release, we will release another experimental CCK using the old upload network the day after this announcement was posted.
CCK Auto Updater
Please note, that we have added a CCK auto updater to the module manager of CCK 3.0 - if you use a preview version already, we recommend that you download this module. If you do not use an experimental version of the CCK 3.0 yet, we recommend that you download this once we release it to the public.
It is a common procedure that we disallow old kits to upload anything to our cloud and as such, the auto updater will save you some time.
We are currently working on the proposed audio rework and are getting closer to be able to release an update to experimental for all of you to try the changes yourself. We want to make sure that those changes are great, as another audio rework would not be optimal.
We are also working on getting the last components supported, that the CCK 3.0 release will push to the public.
If you have ideas for new components, please request them as a game feature here: https://forums.abinteractive.net/t/feature-requests.
As an upcoming step for the UI rework, we will soon open UI translations.
You can star this repository to be notified of it and contribute to the translations once the files are available:
General message / last months recap
As a general message to the community, we want to talk about the update delays in the past as well as the current state of the situation at ABI.
We are three developers working on the game, backend and everything that is required to make it run. We know that delays are unfortunate, but we want to let you all know that we always have to consider everything to evaluate what we deem the best for the community and company as a whole.
This means that we are thinking about the value of releasing updates early, but unfinished and comparing it against waiting longer to release more complete updates.
In the past we always decided to wait and bundle them up as we thought bigger updates would be the better for everyone. Sometimes this led to us becoming too excited about our own updates causing us to add more and more to those without thinking how far it would delay them. From the feedback you all gave us, we started to understand that it is better for the community, if we do smaller updates instead and have those roll out more frequently - which is what we did in the last weeks. (we hope you appreciate those changes!)
Infrastructure 2.0 was a big milestone, with many smaller milestones connected together, forming a whole big rework of the entire network infrastructure - which at that point - was required for anything to function properly. While we did not like to keep delaying this particular update, we had no other choice due to the amount of work required to make all this happen and function. We appreciate the patience most of you have shown and we are certain that the changes we did did benefit most users in the community, while also opening up many future possibilities.
We still have a lot on our list including audio rework, ui overhaul, a game kit to make interactive games possible, services for persistence and inventories, groups and reserved instances. All of those require a huge amount of work, have to be well thought out and take their time to be fully developed and fleshed out. While we do understand that you would like updates to happen as frequently as possible and continuously doing our best to make that happen, we might have specific updates we need to work longer for - this is done to ensure that we can deliver something all of you can actually enjoy.
We hope that you understand our points and we would like to thank all of you who understand the situation as making a game requires a lot of resources and energy.
Thank you for being awesome.
