The menus in this game have a lot of useful options and information.
However they are usually not as easily accessible as people would like them to be.
A solution for this would be to allow users to spawn configurable widgets for displaying menus or information.
These widgets would be attachable to the base of the player model, viewpoint/head or arms natively or on avatars/props via CCK.
Here are our ideas for widget capabilities:
- Display the current time
- Open other widgets/menus
- Take screenshots
- Spawn props
- Enable / Disable Avatar parameters
- Enable / Disable Features (e.g. Dynamic bones)
- Change Volume
- "Mini-Menus" (Worlds, Avatars, Friends, Groups, etc)
- Show game info (FPS, Ping, Playtime, etc)
Here are some sketches of the widgets in action:
To prevent users from looking like mimes when navigating through widgets/"Mini-Menus", widgets should have the option to be displayed for other players.
However, this should also be configurable; Visibility and content should have the option to be set to
- Hide for everyone
- Show only for friends
- Show for everyone
(Content of certain menus, like avatar-selection, friend and account info should only show their contents for the player himself.)
(Widgets with their content hidden will display an icon instead of the menu content)
